Weight Loss Treatment Update

Please be aware that Mounjaro, a medication used to support weight loss, will soon be available on the National Health Service (NHS) for certain patients who meet specific national criteria.

However, this service will NOT be provided through your GP Practice.

Starting from 25 July 2025, patients may be considered for assessment if:

Their Body Mass Index (BMI) is 40 or higher (this level typically indicates severe obesity), and they have four or more of the following health conditions:

  • High blood pressure (also known as hypertension)
  • Abnormal levels of fats in the blood (called dyslipidaemia)
  • Obstructive sleep apnoea (a condition that disrupts breathing during sleep)
  • Heart or circulatory disease (cardiovascular disease)
  • Type 2 diabetes

Only patients who meet both the weight and health condition requirements will be assessed during the first year this treatment is available.

You do not need to contact your GP. If you are eligible, you will be contacted directly over the next few months by a team of NHS specialists who will invite you to an appointment. They will prioritise contacting people with the most urgent health needs first.
